As a Machine Learning Engineer at Adevinta, you will be at the heart of an effort to utilize our unique combination of data to bring about the next generation of digital products and services. You will have a direct impact on millions of users around the world by building data products.
As part of the Personalization team, you will be responsible for building data pipelines that process billions of events and use machine learning techniques to create personalised user experiences on our Marketplaces. The team consists of data scientists and data engineers that work closely together to deliver end-to-end data products such as recommender systems, data-driven search (using learning-to-rank), autocomplete, related searches and other personalised products that help our users make perfect matches on our sites. Adevinta's wide portfolio of sites and services means that we have plenty of data sources and application areas to try out many different approaches in a creative, innovative and ambitious environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply expertise in quantitative analysis, machine learning, and data mining to a variety of product areas including personalized recommendations, classifiers and search quality
Experiment with different models and assess their potential in offline evaluations and by organising A/B experiments
Collaborate in cross-functional teams consisting of product managers, data engineers, UX to build great products together
Contribute to the end-to-end deployment of your machine learning models to ensure your high performing model ends up in production as intended
Main requirements
PhD or Masters degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical field such as computer science, statistics, machine learning or mathematics
+5 years experience in industry in a similar role
Engineer by heart, but passionate about machine learning
Extensive experience applying machine learning modeling to create data products
Experience with large data sets, distributed computing, and Apache Spark or Hadoop/MapReduce is a plus
Experience with streaming tools such as Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink is a plus
Experience with AWS and/or other cloud providers is a plus
Comfort with querying databases (SQL, key-value store)
Experience with a scripting language (ideally Python), functional programming (ideally Scala) and UNIX command line tools
