Mobile Guides Writer

Digital Trends is seeking several freelance writers with a passion for consumer tech and gadgetry. This can be either a part- or full-time gig, however, we’d like it to become a consistent, long-term working relationship if we’re satisfied with your work.

Right now, we’re looking for a competent writer who’s willing to contribute to our Mobile section. Each week, you’ll write or update an upwards of 8-10 guides — less, if you’re working in a part-time capacity — covering everything from the latest iPhone 11 cases to the newest methods for recording a phone call. If chosen, you will write a range of article types, including tutorials, buying guides, rumor roundups, and more social-friendly pieces for platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The ability to research, source, and find the best advice or products for every situation is a must, as is the ability to vet existing copy when revising an existing piece.

The ideal candidate already has experience writing and fact checking online, consistent time each day to write at least one or two guides (several hours), and the desire to dive right into creating publishable content with minimal training. The ability to turn around airtight copy quickly and reliably while using excellent editorial judgment is crucial, as is a background covering mobile technology. The right candidate is familiar with key players in the space (Apple, Samsung, etc.), as well as the software and apps that drive each device.

As part of your job, you will also find and secure relevant images, video, and other media to draw readers into your posts and retain them. Your sources will include media from manufacturers, official press releases, stock photography, and more.

Here’s how to apply:

Submit a the following info:

  • Your background, your areas of interest/experience in tech, and your availability.
  • Resume with relevant tech writing or journalism experience.
  • Writing samples: Send three published clips of your writing.
  • Other relevant links: Add a link to your LinkedIn profile or online portfolio.

In lieu of published clips, you may also choose to write one of the following assignments:
