Position Summary
The UK Tax Manager is responsible for managing the UK tax position. The role will be a key point of contact for Neptune's cross-border tax team.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Advise and support on tax planning in various tax projects. Develop, evaluate, and implement tax planning strategies. Proactively provide practical and technical tax support to the business, primarily to the finance, legal and business development teams
Determine tax savings and recommend strategies
High quality interactions with external auditor and internal stakeholders (e.g. accounting department and FP&A), ability to learn and speak their language
Assist multi-department project teams to implement (tax planning) projects, (M&A) transactions, restructurings
Articulate the tax impact of transactions on the business; convert transactional details to clear tax specifics. Review related legal documentation on tax aspects
Monthly preparation of the UK tax accounting provisions under IFRS, monthly UK tax (re)forecast and quarterly UK tax pack submission
Evaluation of recoverability and recognition of deferred tax asset on the UK tax attributes
Annual budget submission for life of field assets, including working with the economist to help build relevant tax inputs into the economic model
Management of third party vendors (specifically AAB/EY)
Cost centre budget holder for G&A (indirect costs)
Tax accounting for UK statutory accounts
Manage and file corporate tax returns, payments, and reports for E&P and holding companies
Basic VAT knowledge would be good but not essential, returns are currently outsourced
Manage and strengthen relationships with the tax authorities and external tax advisors
Keep up to date with UK tax developments by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organisations
Prepare local UK TP files (basic TP knowledge would be good but not essential)
Following established internal processes and full compliance of agreed internal controls
Basic knowledge of Diverted Profits Tax (DPT) Internal and External Interfaces
Some travels must be expected to other geographical entities within Neptune E&P Required Competences/
Qualifications / Experience
UK tax experience obtained at a tax advisory firm, law firm or in-house. In-depth knowledge of UK Corporate Income Tax (UK Oil & Gas tax regime as well as general corporate tax rules) and interest in other taxes
Strong managerial and personal skills to build relationships and organise work
Strong experience of working in teams with different experts
Good with numbers, experience with tax accounting under IFRS, particularly IFRS 12. Knowledge of tax provisioning under IAS 34 is a plus but not essential
